Lee Hansen is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Essex and Director of the Business Law Clinic. His research examines the intersection of consumer law and human rights, with particular attention to how legal frameworks structure accountability in market contexts and affect consumer vulnerability.
Before entering academia, he practised as a community lawyer in Australia, including as a Principal Solicitor, working in social welfare, discrimination and public interest law. This experience continues to inform his scholarship and his approach to legal education.
He has published on misleading commercial practices and business and human rights, and more recently on the implications of generative AI for contract law teaching. He has extensive experience in clinical legal education and experiential learning.
